Say the job. The invoice writes itself.
This template is yours to use, no account needed. When you are done typing line items into a form, Voice To Task CRM does the same job from a 20-second recording: you say the parts, the hours and the customer, and the app drafts the invoice with your tax rate and your hourly rate already applied. Create a free account and get the app on the App Store or Google Play. The first 5 voice logs cost nothing.
“Two new 20-amp kitchen circuits for the Okafors. Two breakers at 14, two GFCI receptacles at 22, 80 feet of 12-2 at a dollar ten, four hours labor, and the permit was 75.”
What to put on it
What goes on a electrical invoice.
- Your license number, every time Electrical contractors are licensed in almost every state and most require the number on invoices, bids and advertising. Put it under your business name; the template prints it there.
- Permit and inspection as pass-through lines Show the permit fee at cost on its own line, and note that the work is subject to inspection. Customers accept a permit fee they can see and dispute one buried in labor.
- Materials by count and by the foot Breakers, receptacles, switches and fixtures by count; cable by the foot; conduit by the stick or the foot. Quantities and unit prices on each line make the total add up on the customer’s side too.
- Labor as hours or a flat job price Service calls usually bill hours at your rate; circuit adds, panel changes and EV chargers are usually quoted flat. Either way, keep labor separate from materials: in many states materials are taxable and labor is not.
- Panel and scope notes Panel make, bus rating, what was added and what was left as found. If you saw a problem you were not hired to fix (a double-tapped breaker, aluminium branch wiring), write it down; it protects you and it earns the next job.
Licensing and deposit rules named above are the California Contractors State License Board’s (Business and Professions Code §7030.5, §7048, §7159.5); other states differ. Sales-tax treatment of labor and materials is set by each state’s department of revenue. None of this is legal or tax advice; check your own state board and your accountant.

Do electricians need a license number on invoices?
In most states, yes: electrical contractors are licensed and the licensing board requires the number on invoices, bids and advertising (California requires it on all contracts, bids and advertising for every contractor). The template has a license field that prints under your business name.
Should the permit be on the invoice?
Yes, as its own pass-through line at cost. It shows the work was permitted, which matters at resale and for insurance, and it keeps the fee out of your labor number.
How do I bill wire and conduit?
By the foot (or by the stick for conduit) with a quantity and a unit price. The template multiplies quantity by unit price per line and rounds each line to the cent, the way an accounting program does.
Is this electrician invoice template free to use?
Yes. Fill it in, download the PDF or print it, with no signup. Nothing you type leaves your browser. It comes from the team behind Voice To Task CRM, a voice invoicing app for electricians, which is a separate thing you can try later.
