Free electrical estimate template

Electrical estimate template for panels, circuits and EV chargers.

The panel, the breakers, the wire runs, the permit and the hours each get a line with a price. The template totals it, shows the deposit and the balance, labels the document as an estimate and gives you a PDF to send from the driveway.

Or skip the typing

Say the job. The estimate writes itself.

This template is yours to use, no account needed. When you are done typing line items into a form, Voice To Task CRM does the same job from a 20-second recording: you say the parts, the hours and the customer, and the app drafts the estimate with your tax rate and your hourly rate already applied. Create a free account and get the app on the App Store or Google Play. The first 5 voice logs cost nothing.

For example, you say

“Panel upgrade estimate for the Parks. 200-amp panel, meter base, grounding electrodes, 1,350 in materials. Twelve hours labor. EV circuit, 50 amp, 60 feet of 6-3, 310 in materials. Permit 220.”

What to put on it

What goes on a electrical estimate.

  1. Scope by circuit or by device Each circuit, device or fixture as a line: “50 A EV charger circuit, garage, 60 ft run”. Counting the openings on the estimate is what stops the “I thought that was included” conversation later.
  2. Panel and service details Amperage, panel make if you have a preference, meter base, grounding and bonding. Utility coordination (a disconnect appointment) is worth a line in the notes.
  3. Permit, inspection and utility The permit at cost on its own line; who schedules the inspection; any utility fee. Nearly every jurisdiction requires a permit for panel and new-circuit work.
  4. Deposit, validity and license The deposit to start and balance on completion (some states cap home-improvement deposits; California: $1,000 or 10 percent, whichever is less), how long the price holds, and your license number under your name.
  5. Exclusions Drywall patching, painting, trenching and anything in a wall you have not opened. Say it in the notes; the estimate already states that charges may change once the work is open.

Licensing and deposit rules named above are the California Contractors State License Board’s (Business and Professions Code §7030.5, §7048, §7159.5); other states differ. Sales-tax treatment of labor and materials is set by each state’s department of revenue. None of this is legal or tax advice; check your own state board and your accountant.

Questions

Electrical estimate questions.

Something else? Write to dev@adelyons.com.

What goes on an electrical estimate?

The scope by circuit or device, the panel and service details if any, materials, labor, the permit at cost, the deposit and balance, the validity period and your license number. The template has a field or a line for each.

Should I estimate by the hour or flat?

Troubleshooting is usually hourly; defined work (a circuit add, a panel change, an EV charger) is usually flat. The template handles both: hours times your rate on labor lines, or a quantity of one at the flat price.

Is the permit part of the estimate?

Yes, as a pass-through line at cost. It shows the work will be inspected and keeps the fee out of your labor price.

Is this electrical estimate template free?

Yes. Fill it in and download or print the PDF with no signup. Nothing you type leaves your browser. It comes from the team behind Voice To Task CRM, a voice estimate and invoice app for electricians, which is separate and optional.

Quote it on the walk-through. Bill it when you are done.
